Product description
Sofnolime® Medical USP Grade Soda Lime
Sofnolime® medical USP grade is a medical-grade soda lime for removing carbon dioxide from closed anaesthesia breathing circuits. It suits breathing systems where pressure drop must remain negligible. Calcium hydroxide forms the main component.
Clear white-to-violet colour indication
Sofnolime® contains a colour indicator that changes the granules from white to violet as they absorb carbon dioxide. Therefore, the colour change provides a clear visual indication during use.
Controlled particle size
The product uses a controlled particle size distribution to provide a standardised pressure drop. At least 78.0% of the particles measure between 2 and 5 mm. In addition, particles up to 0.425 mm account for no more than 0.5%. The specification allows no particles greater than 8 mm.
Friability, equivalent to USP hardness, has a typical value of 95.0%. Furthermore, the technical datasheet specifies maximum moisture absorbance of 7.5% and minimum CO₂ activity of 19.0%. USP test methods validate the particle size and friability methods.
Physical properties and storage
Sofnolime® comes in solid form and has no odour. Its pH ranges from 12 to 14, while its relative density is approximately 0.9 g/cm³. The product also has slight water solubility.
For storage, keep containers tightly closed in a cool and dry area. Ensure adequate ventilation and maintain a temperature between 0 and 35°C. Moreover, keep the product away from direct sunlight.
Quality and packaging
The technical datasheet states that manufacturing activities comply with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 requirements. It also identifies soda lime as a Class IIa medical device manufactured under ISO 13485 procedures.
Sofnolime® comes in 20 kg kegs, 1.36 kg refill bags, 2 × 4.5 kg twin packs and 1 kg canisters. Other options are available on request.
